It is jewelry — solid 925 silver, 9K gold around a genuine stone, made at their size — and what goes on the back is entirely yours to decide. Most people engrave a name. Plenty add a phone number, a date, a second line only they understand. Up to 10 characters on the first line and 15 on the second, cut into the metal so it stays readable.

Every BooBoos charm is solid 925 sterling silver, with the bezels and accents in 9K gold — hallmarked 375. Nine-carat is the harder gold: the alloy in it is exactly what lets it take a scrape from a fence, a food bowl or another dog’s collar and keep its edge. Nothing is plated, so the silver stays silver and the gold stays gold. The stones are genuine, hand-set in protective bezels.

Their name is cut into the back of the charm in a handwritten style, with an optional second line underneath and the BooBoos mark. Cut, not stamped and not printed, so it does not wear off the way a machine-stamped tag does. Up to 10 characters on the first line, 15 on the second. Added to the price when you choose it.

Some of them, and here is exactly which. Blue topaz — both the Swiss and the London — is colourless topaz that has been irradiated and heated; effectively all blue topaz on the market is. Madera quartz is amethyst that has been heated. Lemon quartz and fumé quartz are usually treated too. Garnet, peridot and both amethysts are not. Treatment is standard practice across the whole jewellery trade and the colour is permanent, but you should be told, so: told.

No. Green fur comes from copper, which is what brass and plated “silver” tags are mostly made of — it reacts with skin and damp fur and leaves a stain. There is no brass and no plating in a BooBoos charm. It is solid 925 sterling silver all the way through, with 9K gold on the bezels.

Close, but never identical — and that is the point. Every stone we set is a real gemstone, cut and chosen one at a time, so colour, saturation and the way it catches light vary a little from piece to piece. No two BooBoos charms are the same, and yours will never be anyone else’s. The only exception is the lab diamond accent on two-stone designs, which is consistent by nature.

Yes, and a lot of people eventually do. It is small enough to sit on a chain and made well enough to survive the move. Theirs now, yours later.

Two ways, and it takes about ten seconds. If the collar strap is slim enough, thread the strap straight through the charm loop before you buckle it — nothing to open, nothing to lose. If it is not, open a small split ring with a fingernail or the edge of a coin, slide the charm loop on, then slide the ring onto the D-ring the collar already has. Any split ring works — the same kind a house key sits on.

Both. Tell us who wears it — cat, tiny dog, small or medium dog, big dog — and we make the attachment to match their collar. Cats and tiny dogs wear slim collars up to about 10 mm, small and medium dogs 10–20 mm, big dogs 20–30 mm. The charm itself is light and flat enough that a breakaway cat collar still breaks away.

About two weeks, worldwide, from your order to their collar. Nothing is sitting in a warehouse: yours is cut, set and engraved after you order it. If you need it for a date, tell us before you pay and we will say yes or no honestly.

If we cut the wrong name, set the wrong stone, or it turns up damaged, we remake it. That is on us, not on you. If the spelling you sent us is the spelling we cut, we cannot refund it once the metal is cut — which is why you can change the spelling free, right up until we start. Cancel any time before that.

A soft cloth. It is solid silver, so it can dull slightly over months of wear — a minute of rubbing brings it back, and no polish or dip is needed. It is fine in the rain and fine if they swim. As with anything on a collar, check the collar hardware now and then.
